Analysis

Did you manage to crack the code? Don’t worry if you didn’t—it’s completely normal, especially if this is your first time with this kind of puzzle. To help you get the hang of these puzzles, here’s a quick guide on how you can work through it and find the answer:

The best clue to begin your analysis is Clue #4. Given that 5, 7, and 8 are missing from our mystery code, let’s eliminate all instances of these numbers in the remaining clues.

Next, let’s turn our attention to Clue #1 and Clue #2, specifically focusing on the number 2. If 2 were in our mystery code, it would be in the correct position in Clue #2. This clearly indicates that 2 is missing from our mystery code.

As we did with 5, 7, and 8, let’s eliminate any instance where 2 appears.

In Clue #2, we are left with the number 4. So, it automatically becomes one of the numbers in our mystery code. Now we need to determine its position.

Clue #3 tells us that two numbers are correct but wrongly placed. We know that one of these numbers is 4 because we confirmed it from our previous steps.

Since it is in the wrong position, 4 cannot be the first digit in our mystery code. It is neither the second digit according to Clue #2, so it must be the last digit. Thus, we have XX4.

Now, let’s figure out the first and second digits.

Looking closely at Clue #3 and Clue #5, it is apparent that 6 is also missing from our mystery code because if it were present, it would be correctly placed in Clue #5.

Accordingly, we eliminate every instance of 6 in the clues. This leaves us with 9 as our second digit in the mystery code according to Clue #5.

From Clue #1, we can determine its position in the code, which is the second digit. So, we have X94.

Based on Clue #1, we also eliminate 1 as it is not in our mystery code.

The only number we haven’t eliminated so far is 3, which automatically becomes our first digit in the mystery code.

Therefore, the code is 394.
