Analysis

Did you manage to crack the code? Don’t worry if you didn’t—it’s completely normal, especially if this is your first time with this kind of puzzle. To help you get the hang of these puzzles, here’s a quick guide on how you can work through it and find the answer:

To solve this puzzle, start with Clue #2. From Clue #2, we can see that 3, 8, and 7 are not part of the mystery code, so we can eliminate these numbers from every clue they appear in.

This leaves us with 6 in Clue #1 as one of the numbers in our mystery code. Clue #1 also indicates that 6 is in the correct position, so it is our middle digit. Thus, we have X6X.

Next, let’s figure out the first and last digits.

Focusing on Clue #3, it indicates that only one number is correct. Since we have established that 6 is one of the numbers, we can quickly deduce that 2 is not in the code.

We are now left with only 2 numbers: 4 and 1. Since these are the only remaining numbers and we need a three-digit code, they must be in the mystery code.

So, our code can be 164 or 461.

To narrow it down, we turn to Clue #4, which tells us that two numbers are correct but wrongly placed. The two numbers must be 1 and 4 since we had eliminated 7 in our first step.

Now, since the middle position is already occupied by 6 and the current positions of 1 and 4 in Clue #4 are wrong, we need to swap 1 and 4 to place them correctly.

This gives us the mystery code: 164.
