How to Play Flagle

To play Flagle, go to their official website at flagle.io. Once there, you’ll see a blank grid where a flag will gradually appear. The grid consists of six blocks, corresponding to your six guesses. Like the original Wordle, you won’t receive any hints until after you make a guess.

Select your guesses from a list of countries, which helps prevent misspellings. Start typing the name of a country and choose the correct one when it appears in the list. After entering your guess, one block of the flag will be revealed.

If you’re familiar with flags, you might be able to solve the puzzle by your second guess. However, solving it on the first guess is purely by chance. You have six attempts before the full flag and the answer are revealed.

Narrowing Down Your Guesses

Before sharing how you can narrow down your guesses, it is crucial to understand how to start the game.

Which country should you begin with?

A good strategy is to start with a broad geographical range. Similar to the two-word combination strategy in Wordle, starting with two countries from different continents can quickly inform the direction you want to take with your subsequent guesses, which in turn increases your chances of getting closer to the target country with your initial guesses.

Now, let’s discuss how you can narrow down your guesses:

When you enter your first guess, a corner of the flag of the day will be revealed as a hint to help you identify the correct country. Pay close attention to the parts of the flag that are revealed after each guess. This can help you recognize patterns and make more informed decisions for your next guess.

Besides the corner of the flag, there are two more important clues to help you narrow down your guesses: the distance to the target country and the direction.

For the distance clue, remember that the circumference of the Earth is about 40,000 kilometers. So, if the target country is 7,000 kilometers to the southwest of your guess, you can focus on countries in that region. But if your guess is off by 10,000 kilometers, you should consider guessing a country from another region because 10,000 km is approximately a quarter of the way around the world.

With this in mind, don’t waste guesses on countries that are too far away or in the wrong direction. Instead, concentrate on countries that are closer to the target location based on the provided clues.
