What Wordle Say When You Get It In 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th Tries and What the Accolades Truly Mean?

So, what does Wordle say when you get the day’s answer in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th tries?

And what do these accolades mean to you as a Wordle lover?

Wordle doesn’t explain what the accolades signify, which is why I’ve created this post to help anyone interested in interpreting them get some insight.

I love Wordle, play every day, and usually do fairly well. Therefore, I believe I’m qualified to explain what the accolades truly mean and offer my take on your score or the number of guesses it takes you to solve Wordle.

Let’s get started right away…

1st Guess: “Genius”

If you get the day’s Wordle word in your first try, Wordle tell you that are you are a “GENIUS”.

Sure, solving the puzzle on the first try is an incredible feat. It suggests that you have an uncanny ability to deduce the correct word from a single guess, which signifies your exceptional vocabulary and pattern recognition skills.

Achieving this level of success is akin to a lightning strike, a rare and remarkable occurrence that leaves onlookers in awe.

But let’s be honest—are you really a genius?

Anyone who’s played Wordle long enough knows that if this happened then it’s more about luck than skill.

Getting the word on your first try is almost always a fluke…

It’s hard to guess the day’s word right off the bat, unless it happens to be a common starter like “adieu,” “audio,” “later,” “Ratio”or “soare.”

Otherwise, you likely cheated by checking the answer or hints elsewhere, having a friend spoil it, or trying again on a different device after failing.

So while Wordle might crown you with a “Genius” label, it doesn’t truly make you one—either you got lucky or bent the rules.

2nd Guess: “Magnificent”

You get “Magnificent” accolade if you guess wordle word correctly on the second try.

Technically, it indicates that you have a deep understanding of the game’s mechanics and can quickly narrow down the possibilities based on the feedback from your initial guess.

In reality, however, it is still a matter of extreme luck, much like finding the word on your first guess.

This doesn’t mean it can’t be done….if you’ve played Wordle long enough, I’m sure you’ve achieved a 2/6 score a handful of times.

However, if you are playing strategically, you will confirm that having 2 or 3 letters in the correct positions after the first guess doesn’t necessarily mean your next guess should be the day’s solution.

Why? Because you risk doing more steps by guessing the day’s word with limited information.

3rd Guess: “Impressive”

Wordle says”Impressive” if you solve the puzzle in three guesses.

This accolade suggests that you have a strong grasp of the game’s patterns and can effectively eliminate incorrect letters and positions with each guess.

Achieving this accolade is a clear indication of a player’s mastery of the game.

Yes, people who consistently solve Wordle in three guesses are quite skilled at the game! Most of them know what they’re doing and employ solid strategies to achieve their wins.

They understand how to effectively use data from their previous guesses to maximize their chances with the third guess.

Many also have a strong selection of excellent starting words to keep them on the right track.

In a nutshell, a 3/6 win is rarely due to luck or guesswork; it requires skill, finesse, and intellect.

If anything, only true Wordle enthusiasts can maintain a streak of three guesses or fewer.

4th Guess: “Splendid”

You get the”Splendid” accolade if you guess the correct Wordle word on the fourth attempt.

A 4/6 is still a solid performance. It suggests that you have a good command of the game and can consistently make progress towards the solution.

While it may not be as flashy as the higher accolades, achieving “Splendid” is still a commendable accomplishment that demonstrates your commitment to the game.

I’ve achieved a 4/6 score several times since I started playing Wordle, particularly on trickier days.

I believe a 4/6 score is a decent and respectable achievement; there’s no shame in it. If you’re not making risky moves, three guesses should provide you with the information needed to make a correct fourth guess.

In fact, it’s one of the clear indicators that someone hasn’t cheated. You see, cheaters’ egos often prevent them from being patient enough to win the game in more steps (like a 4/6) when they already know the answer.

5th Guess: “Great”

Wordle gives the “Great” accolade when you solve the puzzle on the fifth guess.

For experienced Wordlers, winning on the fifth guess usually indicates a mistake made in the earlier steps. They likely aimed for a 2/6 or 3/6 win and went too bold with their guesses without thinking about working strategies, or perhaps the day’s solution involved repeating letters, and they weren’t prepared to experiment.

Anyway, there are many missteps that can lead to a 5/6 outcome, and you probably remember exactly what happened in your case.

But if you’re new to Wordle, a 5/6 win is still an accomplishment, and offers a great opportunity to gain more knowledge and experience along the way.

Personally, I consider a 5/6 score unfortunate, as it usually happens when I’ve had one or two bad guesses that I thought would lead me to the day’s answer.

All in all, while “Great” may not be the most impressive accolade, a 5/6 is still a testament to your love for the game and your focus on learning from mistakes. After all, what really matters in Wordle is getting the day’s word.

6th Guess: “Phew”

The last accolade that wordle gives for guessing the correct word on the sixth and final attempt is “Phew”.

It is a sigh of relief, both for you (the player) and the game itself.

It suggests that you’ve narrowly avoided a defeat and can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

It also shows a willingness to keep trying, even when the odds seem stacked against you.

I can’t deny that I’ve had a 6/6 before—of course I have. It happens sometimes. But to be honest, by the time I’m on the 6th guess, I’m already feeling bored and desperate. It feels like I’m forcing a win or just playing to keep my winning streak alive.

Long story short, while it may not be the most satisfying way to win, achieving a “Phew” is still a victory, and it demonstrates your commitment to the game and your refusal to give up, even when the odds are stacked against you.

Closing Thoughts

Each of Wordle’s accolades represents a different level of success and a unique journey through the game.

Whether you’ve achieved a “Genius” or a relieved “Phew” moment, the true joy of Wordle lies in the challenge and the sense of accomplishment that comes from solving the puzzle, no matter how many guesses it takes.
